JoSAA counselling: latest news, schedule and round results

JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) runs the counselling for IITs, NITs, IIITs and other government-funded institutes after the JEE results. Every story below is written from an official JoSAA notice.

Latest JoSAA news

No JoSAA stories yet. New official notices appear here within minutes.

JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) allots undergraduate seats at the IITs, NITs, IIITs and other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) through one common online process. IIT seats need a JEE Advanced rank; NIT, IIIT and GFTI seats go by JEE Main rank.

JoSAA 2027

The JoSAA 2027 schedule and business rules have not been released yet. They usually follow the JEE Advanced result, so JoSAA runs in June and July. Every official JoSAA notice will appear in the news list above within minutes.

How JoSAA works, round by round

  1. Register and fill choices on the JoSAA portal: the programmes and institutes you want, in order of preference.
  2. Seat allotment rounds. In 2026 there were five rounds. After each allotment, a candidate allotted a seat for the first time must accept it: choose Freeze, Float or Slide, upload documents and pay the Seat Acceptance Fee by the deadline.
  3. Withdrawal is allowed only until a deadline announced by JoSAA (in 2026 it was 14 July 2026, 5 pm).
  4. After JoSAA, NIT, IIIT and GFTI seats still empty go to the CSAB Special Rounds.

Use the JoSAA data

Our JoSAA dashboard has opening and closing ranks for 138 institutes and 1,088 programmes, round by round, from the official JoSAA results. Check where your rank stood last year before you fill choices: a later closing rank means the seat was easier to get.

Questions students ask

When does JoSAA 2027 start?

The JoSAA 2027 schedule has not been announced yet. JoSAA counselling begins after the JEE Advanced result; in 2026 it ran in June and July. We will publish the schedule as soon as JoSAA releases it.

Do I need JEE Advanced for JoSAA?

Only for IIT seats. NIT, IIIT and GFTI seats in JoSAA are allotted on your JEE Main rank.

What do Freeze, Float and Slide mean?

After an allotment you tell JoSAA what to do next: Freeze keeps the seat and leaves later rounds; Float keeps it but lets you move to a higher choice at any institute; Slide keeps it but lets you move only to a higher choice within the same institute.

What does a later closing rank mean?

A later (higher) closing rank means the seat was easier to get in that round. An earlier (lower) closing rank means it was tougher.
