The two papers
- Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech): for admission to NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded technical institutions and institutions of participating states. It is also the eligibility test for JEE Advanced.
- Paper 2: for B.Arch (Paper 2A) and B.Planning (Paper 2B).
Paper 1 has 75 questions in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Each subject has 20 multiple-choice questions (Section A) and 5 numerical-answer questions (Section B), with negative marking in both sections. The exam is computer-based, lasts 3 hours and runs in two shifts: 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. It is held in 13 languages.
After JEE Main: where your rank takes you
- JoSAA counselling (June–July): seats at NITs, IIITs and GFTIs by JEE Main rank, round by round.
- CSAB Special Rounds (after JoSAA): a second chance at NIT, IIIT and GFTI seats left empty.
- JEE Advanced: in 2026, the top 2,50,000 candidates in the JEE Main B.E./B.Tech paper were eligible to take it. The 2027 rule will be in the JEE Advanced 2027 brochure.
